omschrijvingItalian Kingdom of the Two Sicilies dirk. The hilt consists of a grooved wooden grip- with flat pommel and prominent tang button. Traces of decoration around the latter are too faint to be distinguishable and the ferrule is plain. An oval cross-guard- has an inset anchor on either side of the blade- and traces of floral decoration. Blade is of flattened hexagonal section- with a slight shoulder- a spear point and etched decoration. There is a black leather scabbard with an ornate top locket- lower part of the scabbard missing frog attachment. The locket is decorated with a band of feathers (?)- a scallop shell and fleur-de-lys- with flower. Inscribed on the obverse is 'LABRUND' and on the reverse 'NAPOLI 1845'. The obverse of the blade is inscribed with floral scrolls and similar decoration- an oval surround containing a trophy of arms- comprising spears- shields- suit of classical style armour- and helmet with plume- floral scrolls. Inscribed on the reverse are floral scrolls- an oval surround enclosing a foreign crown above a foul anchor- floral scrolls.
