omschrijving | Sig M1882 revolver presented to Admiral of the Fleet Lord Lewin (1920-1999) in a case (see ZBA2215.1). Solid frame steel revolver fitted with a six shot cylinder and a black chequered grip. The revolver is double action. There is a rear U-notch sight and a bead foresight. The calibre is 7.65mm. The revolver is stamped on the frame '65416' with a cross within a shield. The hammer is inscribed '416'. The revolver is in a fitted box with a plaque inscribed "Presented to Admiral Sir Terence Lewin Commander-in-Chief Naval Home Command by Commandant de Corps J J Vischer- Chief of General Staff- Swiss Army- November 1975". Admiral Lewin entered the Navy in 1939 and served in the Home and Mediterranean Fleets- Malta and North Russian convoys and the invasion of North Africa. Among other commands after the war- he was Commodore- HM Britannia 1957-58- commanded HMS Hermes 1966-7; First Sea Lord and Principal ADC to the Queen 1977-79; Chief of Defence Staff during the Falklands War 1982. Lord Lewin was Chairman of the Trustees of the National Maritime Museum 1987-95.
