omschrijvingSlotted hilt sword. The hilt consists of a slotted hilt with plain bridges; a fluted ivory grip; an eagle-head pommel with prominent tang button- and delicate marking out of the individual feathers. The blade is very curved- with a broad fuller for most of its length- and has etched decoration. The black leather scabbard is tooled- with gilt mounts. Suspension rings hang from the top and mid locket- and there is also a frog stud on the top locket. There is no shoe to the chape. There is plain thread decoration on all these mounts. A swordknot is attached - a blue and gold tassel- with no top to it- and a gold and red (faded other colour?) cord. The spine of the blade is inscribed 'OSBORN'. The obverse of the blade is inscribed with bands of geometric patterning- a ferrule figure in voluminous robe- resting on an anchor- above a 'pavilion' with tassels- and a leafy scroll ending some sort of leafy plant. The reverse is inscribed with bands of geometric patterning- a trophy composed of foul anchor- shield- flag- cannon and halberd- naval crown- the cypher 'GR' below a crown- and an urn (?) draped with material supporting intricate leafy design.
afmetingenBlade: 730 x 32 mm
