omschrijvingStraight-bladed dirk. Owned by George and Henry Symons (died 1819). The hilt consists of a turned ivory grip with brass lion's-mask pommel- ferrule and cross-piece. The cross-piece is flattened and in the form of two dolphins- with tails intertwined - a pair on either side of the grip. The blade is of a flattened diamond section- double-edged- the point having been slightly chipped and there is slight traces of etching. The scabbard is brass with two suspension rings and no separate lockets. The obverse is decorated with engraved foliage and rays- but is not over-ornate. The shoe is in the form of an acorn. One of the dirks belonging to twins George and Henry Symons- who died aged sixteen years on HMS Sybilla at Villa Cruz- 1819. Ancestors of Miss Huddart. See also WPN 1519.
