omschrijvingAmerican Fighting sword. The hilt consists of a gilt brass 5 ball type guard fitted with a side-ring- also decorated with 5 balls- and an up-turned quillon. There is a gilt brass eagle's-head pommel and an ivory grip which is diamond knurled over most of its surface. The lower end of the grip is damaged. Blade is straight and flat-backed. The scabbard is missing. Engraved on the blade are trophies of pikes- flag- bow- quiver with arrows and Phrygian (?) cap- the heraldic US eagle (the shield showing 15 stars) and a scroll with national motto 'E PLURIBUS UNUM'.
