omschrijvingDutch naval officer's sword. The hilt consists of a gilt half-basket guard with a pierced design of scrolls and a crown over foul anchor badge within an oval. There is a lion's-head pommel- smooth back-piece and a leaf design on the trailing quillon. The ivory grip is bound with three gilt wires. Blade is a pipeback. Engraved on the obverse shoulder is a crowned head and helmeted head over 'WK & Co (Kirschbaum)'. Also engraved on the obverse is 'YZERHOUWER' on a scroll between foliage- and the stern view of a sailing ship with yards. The reverse is as the obverse except for the omission of the name on the scroll. There is a black leather scabbard- which has two brass lockets with rings and a chape with a very deep shoe- ornamented with lines. Engraved on the locket is 'P.MANSVELT & ZOOM S'GRAVENHAGE'.
