omschrijvingCurved bladed dirk- which belonged to Lieutenant Robert Dixon (died 1837). The hilt of the dirk consists of a straight quillon with inversed ends. The dirk has a plain rounded pommel and back-piece. The black ebony grip is part diamond knurled. The flat-backed steel blade is very curved. The black leather scabbard has two gilt lockets with rings- and a chape. Robert Dixon was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 1802. From the 19th December 1803 until the 14th August 1805 he served in the store ship HMS 'Camel'. From August 1805 until 1806 he was Third Lieutenant in HMS 'Quebec'. His captain in HMS 'Quebec' was the Honourable Captain G.H. Dundas who was fatally wounded in a duel with a Mr A. Powell on the 28th February 1809. Lieutenant Dixon died in 1837. This type of dirk was introduced into the Royal Navy circa 1820- to be worn by Naval Cadets.
