omschrijvingJapanese tachi (Military fighting sword)- which belonged to an Officer of the rank of Captain (or below)- in the Imperial Japanese Army. The hilt of the tachi consists of a cast white metal grip. The grip is secured to the tang by means of a screw. There is a retaining spring fitted to the grip- which passes through the guard into a horizontal hole in the throat of the scabbard. The tachi has a pale blue sword knot- which is lined with brown. This type of sword knot denotes an Officer of the rank of Captain (or below). The steel blade is slightly curved- with a ridged back and a single narrow fuller running most of the length of the back. The blade was produced in a factory and is stamped with the number '1 4 4 8 0'. Neither the obverse nor the reverse of the blade is engraved. The steel scabbard has been painted brown and has a brazed throat- a shoe of irregular outline and a single ring suspension. This is a poor example of a Japanese tachi (Military fighting sword) for better examples of tachi's see WPN1184- WPN1119- WPN1398 and WPN1399.
