omschrijvingBlunderbuss. The stock- possibly made of walnut- is fully stocked to the muzzle with a brass butt plate with tapered tongue. The butt is decorated behind the barrel tang by a swelling which merges via a neck into a formalised scallop shell. Very long plain brass trigger guard and two brass ramrod pipes with plain tapered wooden ramrod set in the underside of stock. The lock is a sidelock flintlock. The barrel is octagonal at the breech and has a flared muzzle. The calibre is 1.3in. Inscribed on the barrel are three marks which are indistinct but may read: 'Gunmaker's Company' view and proofmark (crown over 'V' within an oval)- crown over 'IB' and crown over 'G'. Jonathan Buttall is listed in the Board of Ordnance records as 'Founder of Brass Furniture for Small Arms to the Ordnance'.
