omschrijvingFlintlock pistol. The walnut stock is fully stocked to the muzzle. It is fitted with a brass trigger guard- brass butt cap and single brass ramrod pipe. The lock is a sidelock flintlock and is fitted with flint. The barrel is of circular section and smoothbore. The calibre is 0.75in. Engraved on the lockplate is: 'TOWER Crown' over 'GR' and on the sideplate: 'L'Espion March 2d 1795 HC'. The 'L'Espion' was a French corvette of 18 guns- Captain Magendie- that was captured by HMS 'Lively'- Captain G Burlton- on March 2nd 1795 after a two hour action off Brest. The 'L'Espion' was renamed HMS 'Spy' and was sold in 1801. The 'Lively' was wrecked in 1798 near Cadiz.
