omschrijvingRifle. The barrel is secured to the stock by brass pins and the midsection of the barrel to the fore-end is encased in wood. There is a slot cut in the underside of the stock which contains a cleaning rod. A sling swivel is attached to the end of the magazine. The magazine holds five rounds. Bolt action lock. The barrel is rifled and fitted with a blade foresight and a tangent curved rearsight graduated from 1-300 to 3-000 metres. The calibre is 7.62mm. Inscribed on the magazine is: 'N294044' and on the bolt 'N452424'- on the stock there is a brass label which reads 'FROM U135 SURRENDERED AT HARWICH- 20 NOVEMBER 1918'. Large quantities of these rifles were captured from the Russians and used by the Germans. U135 was launched 8 September 1917 and surrendered 20 November 1918. She sank off the east coast of Great Britain while en route to be broken up in 1921.
