omschrijvingPercussion musket. The walnut stock is fitted with three brass ramrod pipes- a brass fore-end- brass butt plate and a brass trigger guard. The weapon is also fitted with two iron sling loops. The lock is a percussion sidelock and the head of hammer is relieved at the front. The iron barrel is of circular section and fitted with a small back sight and a rectangular knob foresight. The calibre is 0.753 inches. This musket is marked with indistinguishable inscriptions but these are probably similar- if not identical- to those found on percussion musket AAA2538- since both are alike and were both apparently made by H. Yeomans (to which the inscriptions on AAA2538 refer). It was usual for merchant ships at the time to carry some weapons and they may have been used for that purpose.
