| omschrijving | Revolver owned by Captain R. C. Zeal. The stock consists of a chequered walnut grip with a steel butt plate incorporating a lanyard ring. There is a steel solid frame showing traces of colour hardening. There is a blued steel trigger guard. The safety catch is on the left side level with the top of the grip. The lock is double action. The cylinder is blued and has six chambers. Loading is effected from the rear on the right side where a moveable trap- hinged at the base- may be turned through 90 degrees (from vertical to horizontal). The cylinder is not normally removeable. The hammer has a spur with a knurled tip and the action may be cocked by this means. The barrel is of octagonal section and rifled with a right hand twist with four grooves all broad and shallow. The barrel is blued and fitted with a semi-circular blade foresight. The calibre is 0.38in. The revolver is inscribed on the rear face of the cylinder 'E L G' and '*' over 'E' and the figure '6' within an oval. On the right side of the frame at the front is inscribed '*' over 'E'. On the right side of the barrel- near the rear is inscribed '*' over 'E'. The revolver is contained within a wooden box with a jag- a brush- a bottle and 17 rounds of .38 calibre ammunition stamped 'REM-UMC 36 S&W'. Captain Roston Calnady Zeal was born in Egremont in 1888 and gained his master mariner's certificate in Liverpool in 1914 (certificate number 041871). He left the merchant service circa 1929. He worked mainly for the Ellerman Shipping Line. There are five parts marked AAA2426.1-5- they can be viewed via the Whole/Part toggle.
