omschrijvingA seascape sketch painted during Everett's stay at Cobo Bay, Guernsey. The loose brush strokes imitate the movement of the waves and the use of colour and grey tonal values indicate the cold wintry conditions. The paint indicating the surface of the water has been thickly applied in impasto. Everett visited Cobo Bay, Guernsey, in the Channel Islands between January and March in 1911. He stayed at the Rockmount Hotel with a direct sea view, for three months, with the express purpose of painting the sea. This meant he was able to concentrate on painting the sea and the effects of light on it. He revisited the area for three months between 12 January and March 1937 when he rented a studio on the cliffs at Grande Rocque near Cobo Bay. On this later occasion he noted that the weather was very wet. The painting is inscribed 'Cobo' on the reverse.
