omschrijvingA sketch of waves made while Everett stayed at Corbiere, Jersey, for three weeks from 13 January to 6 February 1928. He visited Corbiere expressly to concentrate on the visual effects of waves and light over the sea in the winter. One of a number of sketches produced during this period, it is shown from a low viewpoint and the use of tone indicates the cold wintry conditions. The loose brush strokes imitate the movement of the waves. The artist has paid attention to the effects of light in the sky, concentrating on the unseen source of light radiating across the sky. Applied with thick impasto paint, it casts a reflection across the surface of the water. The painting is inscribed 'Jersey' verso.
