omschrijvingA dramatic evocation of the sun setting over the sea at Cobo Bay, Guernsey. Rocks are visible in the middle distance on the far left and right. Everett has captured the dramatic effects of sunlight using intense unusual colour tones ranging from pink to lemon yellow to contrast with the dark purples of the clouds and slate grey of the calm sea. Everett visited Cobo Bay, Guernsey, in the Channel Islands between January and March 1911. He spent the three months at the Rockmount Hotel which had a view directly out to sea. He constantly painted the sea and the effects of light on the surface of the water, at different times of the day and in varying conditions. He revisited the area for three months between 12 January and March 1937 when he rented a studio on the cliffs at Grande Rocque near Cobo Bay. On this later occasion he noted that the weather was very wet and he was not able to do much painting.
