omschrijvingToby jug modelled as a seated figure of Admiral David, Earl Beatty (1871-1936). Depicted in uniform and wearing a cap; he holds a shell inscribed 'Dreadnought' between his knees. The blue plinth depicts a submarine on one side, and a torpedo on the other. The handle is modelled as a gun. The corner of the plinth is signed F C G for Sir Francis Carruthers Gould, who made the sketches on which these jug designs were based. The base is printed ‘Carruthers Gould. 1917 copyright; Royal Staffordshire Pottery; Wilkinson Ltd England; Rgd no. 644985’. The jug is one of a series of eleven depicting the Allied war leaders (see also AAA5182).
