omschrijving | Cable-shaped Atlantic Cable jug, commemorating the first successful Transatlantic Cable of 1866. Moulded in relief and coloured with pale blue slip. The body of the jug represents the diagonal construction of submarine telegraph cable. Either side of the lip are representations of the Victorian Royal Standard and the American Stars and Stripes.
In the bottom section of the jug between two bands of cable is a wavy tape with relief lettering bearing the text of the first message to be transmitted: ‘Europe and America are united by Telegraph. Glory to God in the Highest On Earth Peace Goodwill towards Men’.
