omschrijving | Large Oriental vase, made of glazed stoneware with overglaze painted decoration on a duck egg blue glaze. The iconography includes symbols of the eight Doaist immortals, Qilin, fo dogs, four toed dragons, gold fish, ducks, bats, tiger cats, bows and arrows, and the Buddhist flaming wheel. There are flower borders top and bottom. The A silver band is applied to the top rim with four rivets. It is engraved with two crossed anchors and inscribed 'Dato dalla Regina di Napoli con ingraziamenti gratituosi "Il Salvatore del Europa" al Illustrissimo Signore Barone Nelson del Nile, a Palermo, il mese di Luglio 1800 AD'. (Given by the Queen of Naples to the saviour of Europe, the illustrious Baron Nelson of the Nile, at Palermo in the month of July 1800 AD.' Said to have been presented to Emma, Lady Hamilton (circa 1765-1815) by the Queen of Naples-the inscription says that it was given to Nelson. . It originally stood on a carved wooden stand, now missing.
