omschrijving | Creamware tureen, part of a service belonging to Nelson's brother, the Reverend William Nelson (1747-1835), later 1st Earl Nelson. The tureen and cover is on a raised foot, with painted key pattern borders in two shades of red with gilt rims, inside and outside the tureen and on the lid. Inside the tureen is a painting of a church in red. On the lid are the Nelson coat of arms and supporters, the shield quartered. In the first and fourth quarters are Admiral Horatio Nelson's full arms, the Nelson family arms are shown without the chief in the second quarter and the Suckling arms in the third quarter. The motto 'PALMAM QUI MERUIT FERAT' is inscribed below. On the other side of the lid, an Earl's coronet, Nelson's chelengk and 'SAN JOSEF' crests, with the motto 'FAITH AND WORKS'. There is a hole in the lid for the ladle.
