omschrijvingCreamware jug, commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) and Admiral of the Fleet, Adam Duncan (1731-1804). It is transfer-printed in black on one side with a profile portrait, supposed to be Duncan, but unlike him and in foreign uniform. Below a verse, swags and fruiting sprays. 'ADMIRAL LORD VISCOUNT DUNCAN', 'Printed & engraved by Thos Baddeley, Chapel-Field, Hanley.' 'Long as the Sea shall fence our envi'd Land/Long as our Navy shall the Sea command:/So long shall Admiral Lord Duncan's Name/Be grav'd by Memory on the Rock of Fame,/the Page of History shall his Deeds repeat,/With Britans (sic) Triumph and the Dutch defeat.' On the other side a portrait of Nelson in uniform, surmounted by a laurel wreath, Royal Standard and Union Flag. Laurel sprays and a verse are placed below. 'ADMIRAL NELSON', 'T. Baddeley, Hanley,' 'Again the tributary strain,/of greatfull Britains let us raise;/And to the Heroes of the Main/Triumphant add a Nelson's Praise,/For the best Piece of News we have heard a long while,/To what gallant NELSON has sent from the Nile.'
