omschrijvingA meat dish of the 'Arctic Scenery' pattern with a well and channels for gravy, supported on two lugs. It is made of earthenware, transfer-printed in blue with a scene of Eskimos dancing before a group of European sailors based on an engraving by Edward Finden after G.F. Lyon entitled 'Eskimaux children dancing, Igloolik 1823' in W.E. Parry's 'Journal of a Second Voyage for the discovery of a North-West Passage' (London, 1824). The sailors are from an unidentified source. In the background, icebergs and a ship overwintering in the Arctic, from an engraving by W. Westall after F.W. Beechey 'H.M. Ships Hecla and Griper in Winter Harbour' in W.E. Parry 'Journal of a voyage for the discovery of a North-West Passage' (London, 1821). The border is divided into eight panels showing alternatively flowers, a tiger family and an African riding an ostrich.
