omschrijvingTerrestrial table globe. Geographical details on the sphere include a note in Africa that reads: 'Conjectural source of the Rr. Zaire'. There are five labels in the south pole region including, for example, 'South Victoria Land', ENDERBY's LAND', and 'SOUTH SHETLAND'. A total of eight oceans are named. A bag of lead shot was originally fixed inside the globe to balance it but this is now detached. A similar copy of the 240 mm globe by Newton, dated 1817, has been identified. It has a slightly different inscription and a floating horizon is attached to the meridian ring. This item is in very poor condition making it impossible to take a photograph of the globe as a whole. For full details about the cartography and construction of this globe please refer to the related publication.
afmetingenOverall: 366 x 231 x 245 mm; Sphere diameter: 231 mm
