omschrijvingNautical globe. This globe was designed for navigation teaching purposes, and was used along with a chart also designed by Hatch and in the National Maritime Museum, London collection numbered G215:1/26. The globe anticipated the requirements for qualification as a Master Mariner under the 1854 Merchant Shipping Act. The globe and the chart, with their ivory fittings and ships, are unique items in the history of globe making. No other globes have been recorded which were designed for the sole purpose of teaching the navigational problems of plane sailing. For full details about the cartography and construction of this globe please refer to the related publication.
