omschrijving | Terrestrial table globe. Geographical details on the sphere include the location of the 'Antipodes de Paris'. There are five labels in North America, one label in Africa and two in Australia. The south coast of Australia is drawn and Tasmania, which is labelled 'I. de Van Diemen', is depicted as an island. The tracks of four explorers are shown with dates, including, for example those for Columbus with the dates 1492, 1493 and of Bougainville with the dates 1768, 1769. A total of nine oceans are named.
The dedication of this globe to the Duchesse d'Angouleme, the only surviving child of Louis XVI and his Austrian queen, Marie-Antoinette, celebrates the restoration of the Bourbon succession in France after the defeat of Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in June 1815. For full details about the cartography and construction of this globe please refer to the related publication.
