omschrijvingTerrestrial table globe. It forms a pair with the celestial globe, van Langren GLB0099. Geographical details on the sphere include loxodromes drawn for 32 compass points. Two locations for the magnetic pole are indicated and labelled; the North Polar area is drawn as four islands. There are notes on discoveries in America, the Indonesian Archipelago and in the hypothetical south polar continent. There are many decoration including ships, Neptune and monsters in the oceans, and in America there are animals and natives. A total of seven oceans are named. Only one other copy of the 325 mm terrestrial globe exists in Rome. The cartography is based on Gerard Mercator's world map of 1569 and Rumold Mercator's map of 1587.
