omschrijving | Terrestrial hand globe. It forms a pair with the celestial hand globe, Newton & Son GLB0060. Geographical details on the sphere are the same as two other Newton terrestrial hand globes, GLB0015 and GLB0054. The location of the 'Antipodes of London' are marked. There is a note on Cook's death: 'Owyhee / Capt. Cook killed 1779'. Tasmania is depicted as an island. The tracks of Cook's second and third voyages are shown with corresponding dates. A total of seven oceans are named. The Newton firm opened new premises in Fleet Street in 1852, on which the dating of this hand globe is based. For full details about the cartography and construction of this globe please refer to the related publication.
