| omschrijving | Terrestrial and celestial pocket globe. Geographical details on the terrestrial sphere show the location of the 'Antipodes to London'. The monsoons in the Indian Sea are recorded, the Chinese Wall is depicted, California is drawn as a peninsula and Australia and New Zealand are drawn according to the Dutch discoveries. The track of Anson is recorded and labelled and a total of five oceans are named.
Astronomical details on the inside of the case show stars represented by different symbols, but a magnitude table is absent. The Milky Way is labelled. A total of six stars and two star groups are named. The 48 Ptolemaic constellations and four of the non-Ptolemaic constellations are drawn. There are four of the southern constellations as well as those of Plancius and all those of Hevelius, but not all the southern constellations are labelled.
This pocket globe appears to be a later edition of Adams GLB0040. Because the inscription on the present copy is engraved and the Adams' one is on a pasted label, it appears that the plates of the Ferguson-Dudley Adams pocket globe became the property of the Lane firm. This means that it was Lane who engraved a new polar calotte for the terrestrial sphere. For full details about the cartography and construction of this globe please refer to the related publication.
