| omschrijving | Terrestrial and celestial pocket globe. Geographical details on the terrestial sphere include the date of Cook's death added as '14th Feb 1779'. The location of the 'Antipodes of LONDON' are marked. Tasmania is now an island. The label 'Dimens Land' is removed. In Australia, the names of 'New South Wales', 'Pt Jackson' and so on are added. In South America, there is now a label that reads: 'Gold mines'. There is a compass drawn in the Ethiopian Ocean. In the south polar region there is the label, 'Field of Ice'.
Astronomical details on the inside of the case show that the projection is geocentric but the constellations are seen from the back. The stars are represented by different symbols but there is no magnitude table. The Milky Way is labelled. The 48 Ptolemaic constellations and four of the non-Ptolemaic constellations are drawn. In addition, four of the southern constellations are drawn as well as those of Plancius and all those of Hevelius.
There are many 70 mm (2.75 in) Lane globes with a label pasted on. The present example represents a later edition of Lane GLB0028. The similar editions by Lane are dated 1807-15. The West label cannot predate the bazaar's opening in 1816, when this globe was presumably of recent manufacture.
