Reliable records with details about pictures are hard to find because while pictures were maintained, records were considered less important and destroyed when 'cleaning' the archives in Netherlands. Currently about 1400 cards still exist in the Netherlands Marine Corps (NLMC) archives in Rotterdam, containing very high level information on pictures that are a part of the above mentioned collection 2174 "Hugo Wilmar". These card were accidentally found by a museum worker after one of his colleagues had dumped these card in the trash bin (so I was told). This NIMH collection 2174 "Hugo Wilmar" contains pictures of Hugo Wilmar, about 400, and others. the (often incomplete) information is about date of picture, event described in a one-liner, photographer and little information about the distribution of these pictures. Therefore your number of round and about "400" matches the number of cards found in the NLMC archives with the name Hugo Wilmar. The real number of Hugo Wilmar pictures most definitely is much higher, because (1) some cards don't mention the photographer, and (2) Hugo Wilmar left Indonesia / NLMC in the beginning of 1947, but returned as an embedded civilian photographer at the start of the 1st Politionele Actie in july 1947. I found out that in different archives/collections identical pictures exist, but mentioning different photographers. Therefore it is hard to tell exactly which and how many pictures in the different archives were taken by Hugo Wilmar. Hugo Wilmar has however a unique style and looking at those pictures you intuitively feel that there is a high chance Hogo Wilmar might be the one who took the picture. Dirk van Duijn | 2023-11-29 | 14:06:11Momenteel beschrijf ik als NIMH-vrijwilliger Nederlands-Indië gerelateerde fotocollecties. In 2019-2021 betrof dat de collectie 2174 "Hugo Wilmar" (2000 foto's) en momenteel de collectie 2196 "Fotoarchief Marvo" (ca. 3000 foto's). Ik heb daarvoor veel aanvullend onderzoek gedaan in beschikbare bronnen, zoals literatuurstudie (over mariniersbrigade), onderzoek in openbare archieven, bestuderen van internetsites over voertuigen/wapens/uitrustingsstukken etc. In diverse beeldarchieven cq. colleties komen telkens dezelfde foto's terug, veelal met andere beschrijving, (en daardoor) vaak met veel fouten/onjuistheden. Ook bij deze foto valt mij e.e.a. op. Plaats: Geen Malang maar de weg tussen Pasir Poetih en Probolinggo (links van de weg is tussen de bomen door een kustlijn te zien met vissersprauwen, en die kan niet worden gekoppeld aan de opmars naar Malang). De details zijn beter zichtbaar op de hoge resolutie-foto van het NIMH - zie bijlage Datum: Dit moet zijn 21 juli 1947 (1e politionele actie - operatie product) Voertuig: De mariniers hadden inderdaad veel International Harvester trucks, ook van de M5 serie, maar in dit geval gaat het vrijwel zeker om een GMC 2-1/2 ton CCKW-353 6x6 truck Kleur lap: Waarom dat op deze zwart-wit foto geel zou moeten zijn, dat snap ik niet. Misschien dat de huidige beschrijving van de foto zijn oorsprong vindt in gedocumenteerde beschrijving van dit archief. Indien dat zo is dan zou ik het fijn vinden als u mij daarover wilt contacten, want dat zou voor mijn wrk erg nuttig zijn.
